![]() But through Christ, we have access to God and peace with Him (Romans 5:1-2 10). Sin formerly broke our relationship with God and made us His enemies (Colossians 1:21). Jesus likened himself to this ladder in John 1:51 and said, “ you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending descending on the Son of Man.” Its purpose was to provide a bridge or access point between heaven and earth. Jacob once had a dream in which he saw a ladder on earth that reached heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Peter even said the flood was a type of baptism through the resurrection of Christ (1 Peter 3:21). He is the door of the sheep, and once we enter in Him, we will be saved from the wrath of God and receive life (John 10:9).Īlso, as the ark was the only way to escape the flood, Jesus is the only way to salvation (John 14:6). Once they entered, the Lord shut the door, and everyone within the ark survived the flood.Īs the ark protected Noah and his family from the flood, Jesus protects us from judgment. When God decided to destroy the world through a flood, He chose to spare Noah and his family because Noah found favor in His eyes.Ĭonsequently, God instructed Noah to build an ark, to enter it, and to bring his family and lots of animals with him. Jesus is also foreshadowed through symbols and events.Īnd here are a few of them: 1. But people are not the only types or illustrations of Christ in the Old Testament. And, second, with failure comes resiliency to become a tool to accomplish what the Lord wants done. In time Hollis learned two things: First, when he turned to God in his failures, the disappointments of life made more sense. “Failure is not in trying failure is in not trying at all.” “The purpose of failing has changed for me,” he said. But when he took time to listen, he learned empathy. Sometimes you question the Lord and ask why, he said. ![]() The morning after the elections, Hollis awoke to find that his mother had driven during the night to be there to comfort him when he awoke. ![]() He wanted to show that he could do hard things. He wanted to win out of respect for her and all they had endured together. Reality set in a little later, he said, when he called his mother and broke into tears as he explained the results. Just a little more effort, he thought-talking to or texting just three more people-and he could have won and been able to do so much good. Losing when he was that close to winning was crushing. God has great things in store for all of us, and I think our failures remind us how much we really do need to depend on Him. I’m a firm believer that the best things are yet to come, and if you will turn to God in our failures, He will get you there. For all of who you who have failed, keep your chin up. Are those 3 votes going to be the things that keep us from being happy or be the things that propel us forward. After months and months of hard work, my dream fell apart by just 3 votes out of 10,000 votes submitted during the election.
